Government unveils funding for five new towns

The government has announced that £3.7m will be spent on developing five new garden towns.

Each new development will receive £750,000 and in total, the government hopes to see 64,000 new homes built on these sites.

The funding comes from the £9m earmarked for new town investment that was announced in February this year.

The new developments will be located in: Grazeley Garden Settlement (15,000 homes); Hemel Garden Communities, (11,000 homes); Easton Park Garden Community, North Uttlesford Garden Community and West of Braintree Garden Community (18,500 homes); Tewkesbury Ashchurch Garden Community (10,195 homes) and Meecebrook, in the north of Stafford borough (10,000 homes).

Minister of state for housing Kit Malthouse says: “I congratulate these councils who have put forward ambitious proposals, which will build many thousands of high-quality homes, and am pleased to support them as they work to make these plans a reality.”
